Overview

The Radiology Technologist performs diagnostic imaging examinations on patients to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This role ensures the safe, effective, and efficient use of radiologic equipment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Diagnostic Imaging
    • Operate X-ray and other imaging equipment (e.g., fluoroscopy, portable radiography).
    • Position patients correctly to capture the required anatomical views.
    • Follow prescribed protocols for each exam.
  • Patient Care & Safety
    • Explain procedures to patients and address concerns.
    • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety during imaging.
    • Use lead shields and other protective devices to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Equipment & Quality Control
    • Inspect and maintain radiologic equipment.
    • Perform quality assurance checks on images before sending to the radiologist.
    • Report equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
    • Work with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure accurate and timely exams.
    • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the PACS/EMR system.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification.
    • State licensure (as applicable).
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Experience:
    • Typically 1–2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology (new graduates may be considered).
Skills & Competencies
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiologic procedures.
  • Proficiency with radiology equipment and imaging software.
  • Strong communication and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
Working Conditions
  • Hospital, outpatient, or diagnostic imaging center settings.
  • May require evening, weekend, and on-call shifts.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases and radiation (with protective measures in place).
