Medical Technologist & Lab Technician, Clinical Research
The Pathology Department is seeking a Molecular Diagnostics Technologist who, under the general supervision of the laboratory manager, performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. These duties require a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially when results are abnormal or atypical.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Perform a variety of both routine and complex clinical and/or research laboratory tests on different specimens, including but not limited to blood, bone marrow, and formalin‑fixed paraffin‑embedded specimens, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Prepare and determine the suitability of reagents following defined formulas and procedures.
- Document and report test results. Completes required logs and supporting documents.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, including routine repairs, and notifies service personnel when more complex problems occur.
- Perform related general duties such as ordering supplies, general lab housekeeping, and maintaining safety records.
- Participate in the training of new employees, students, and physicians in laboratory methodology.
- Strictly comply with patient care and confidentiality policies, and HIPAA regulations.

- The core technical skills listed are most essential; additional technical skills may be required based on specific division or department needs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
- One year’s experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Molecular Biology (MB) ASCP certification.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
