A Police Officer II is responsible for enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to ensure the safety and protection of personnel and state property. Police Officers in this classification do not have supervisory responsibility and will receive general supervision from a Police Officer Sergeant. Employees may be assigned to day, evening, night, or rotating shifts, which may include holidays and weekends. Employees in this classification are considered Emergency Essential personnel and must be willing and available for duty at all hours;
employees may be required to remain or report for duty at such hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency. If you are the selected candidate for this position, you will be required to complete a Pre‑Employment Physical and substance abuse screening, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential functions of this position.
- Enforce laws, rules, and regulations governing the protection of personnel and state property.
- Direct vehicular traffic, enforce parking regulations, investigate accidents, and issue warnings and citations.
- Prepare clear, concise, and accurate incident reports in accordance with agency directives and standard operating procedures.
- Investigate criminal acts to resolve and/or prosecute criminal activity.
- Make arrests and testify in court.
- Render emergency and/or first aid to sick or injured persons. Stabilize injured persons prior to ambulance response.
- Respond to disturbances, emergencies, suspicious persons, and suspicious activities.
- Other functions may be required that enable this agency to fulfill its overall governmental mission to provide law enforcement and physical security to the Department of General Services‑owned and managed properties.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: Six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
- 1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Public Safety Article, Section 3‑207, Annotated Code of Maryland.
- 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal, Petty Officer or higher as a non‑commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
- At least two (2) years of experience as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in Maryland.
This recruitment is limited to current Maryland Police Officers who possess a certification card as a current Police Officer by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) or who are eligible for certification via an MPTSC Comparative Compliance Training Course.
