Position: Domestic Violence Court Watch Coordinator
Baltimore Witness, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing transparency on violent crime cases in Baltimore City, is looking for a skilled court observer/liaison with a passionate commitment to justice for survivors and systemic reforms. The DV Court Watch Coordinator will manage the monitoring of Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVPO) and Extreme Risk Protective Order (ERPO) hearings and victims’ experiences navigating the court system, ensuring the collection of meaningful data to inform intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention and intervention efforts.
This position is responsible for developing and managing a small team to observe court proceedings, collect information on cases, and advocate for victims. The DV Court Watch Coordinator will oversee all aspects of in-court data collection and victim advocacy on DV cases. This role must establish and maintain strong working relationships with attorneys, court personnel, judges, victims, and advocates to help Baltimore Witness accurately track the justice system’s response to victims of IPV.
ResponsibilitiesThe DV Court Watch Coordinator is a full time position. Travel to the Baltimore City Eastside District Court and other Baltimore City courts is required.
- Develop and manage a small team to observe court proceedings and collect information on DV/ERPO cases.
- Monitor DVPO and ERPO hearings and document victims’ experiences navigating the court system.
- Oversee all aspects of in-court data collection and victim advocacy on DV cases.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with attorneys, court personnel, judges, victims, and advocates.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience working within, or in conjunction with, the Baltimore City court system on DV-related matters.
- At least 2 or 3 years experience working on domestic violence related matters in the Baltimore City court system.
- Knowledge of Maryland District Court policies and processes.
- Drive to develop relationships with court personnel.
- Interest in domestic violence prevention and intervention.
