Overview
Sr. Financial Analyst at Johns Hopkins University joins the Finance team for the Central Business Office. The analyst reports to the Associate Director of Finance and manages financial transactions, data consolidation, reporting, and analysis for all University Administration (UA). The role collaborates with Business Office leaders and other UA leaders to align financials and budgets with the university’s financial goals and policies.
Responsibilities- Assist in developing budgets and budget projections for the UA division, including Shared Service Center budgets.
- Oversee compilation of expenditures and revenue budgets submitted by UA departments.
- Provide analysis of departmental general funds, discretionary and endowment funds, service center and capital accounts, and inter‑entity (JAA) agreements for fiscal controls.
- Develop financial reports for forecasting and results analysis.
- Assist in financial analysis regarding projected changes in revenue and expenditures.
- Support UA departments in monitoring and reconciling departmental expenses compared to budget.
- Work with Central Budget Office to ensure submission of UA’s annual budget, quarterly projections, and quarterly variances.
- Ensure divisional compliance with university financial and administrative policies.
- Provide training for others in budget related policies and procedures. For small departments, serve as their financial support.
- Prepare financial transactions in compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis for UA offices.
- Develop and analyze complex financial data, extract and define relevant information; interpret data to determine past financial performance and/or project financial position, and prepare written analyses.
- Assist in developing budget targets and quarterly budget projections for all budget types, including operating, endowment, gift, discretionary and service center funds.
- Confere with internal and external administrative offices to ensure required budget policies and procedures are followed; provide instructions and answer questions related to budget procedures and serve as liaison between the Business Office and other UA departments.
- Monitor monthly expenditures and revenues compared to budget, gather supporting documentation, analyze significant discrepancies, and prepare written summary documents.
- Analyze, monitor, reconcile and fund UA capital projects.
- Assist in the year‑end closing process for the UA division by creating and running standard and ad‑hoc reports, analyzing results, and researching any discrepancies; resolve disputes by working with departmental contacts and prepare written analysis of resolutions.
- Initiate and approve non‑payroll cost transfers, non‑sponsored budget changes and online payment requests; complete necessary documents and forms, apply appropriate codes and follow established processing procedures.
- Represent UA Business Officer at meetings and on committees.
- Locate and comply information and format reports, graphs, tables, records and other sources of information.
- Maintain records through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, updating and purging.
- Use extensively applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Oracle EPM and SAP to assemble, manipulate and format data and reports.
- Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, business or related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible related financial experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Johns Hopkins University and SAP experience highly desirable.
$62,900 – $110,100 annually (commensurate with experience).
