Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Real Estate Tax Partner to lead and expand the firm’s real estate tax practice in California. This role will focus on delivering strategic tax solutions for residential and commercial real estate clients, including structuring transactions, tax compliance, and advising on partnership taxation (Subchapter K). The ideal candidate will be a technical expert with a proven track record of client service, business development, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the firm’s real estate tax practice, providing technical expertise and strategic tax planning for clients in residential and commercial real estate.
  • Advise clients on tax structuring for acquisitions, dispositions, developments, 1031 exchanges, and REITs.
  • Oversee tax compliance and consulting services, ensuring accuracy and adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Provide guidance on partnership taxation (Subchapter K), carried interests, opportunity zones, and cost segregation strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering insights on tax-efficient investment structures, entity selection, and risk mitigation.
  • Drive business development initiatives, leveraging existing relationships and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including advisory and assurance professionals, to deliver holistic client solutions.
  • Mentor and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • CPA and/or JD/LL.M. in Taxation required.
  • 12+ years of experience in real estate tax, with expertise in both residential and commercial real estate.
  • Extensive knowledge of partnership taxation (Subchapter K), REITs, 1031 exchanges, and real estate investment structures.
  • Proven track record of client relationship management and business development.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax matters into actionable client strategies.
