Job Overview
Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst role at The Johns Hopkins University. The position provides professional-level management of sponsored funds, with a primary focus on pre-award and post-award activities for more than 80% of the time. This role supports complex grants and contracts that may include multi-project awards, consortiums, DOD requirements, and high-complexity foundation or pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials.
Responsibilities- Oversee and direct complex award management activities, including account monitoring, audits, evaluations, and reporting.
- Act as the final point of contact with faculty, budgetary staff, and the Office of Research Administration for planning and developing application submissions to federal, private, and commercial agencies.
- Ensure compliance with institutional pre-award processes and sponsor guidelines.
- Review sponsored project proposals for accuracy and adherence to guidelines prior to submission.
- Prepare timely budgets for principal investigator review.
- Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies.
- Review budgets and related justifications for completeness and appropriateness.
- Assist with subcontract negotiation groundwork.
- Maintain compliance with grant and contract regulations, sponsor guidelines, internal protocols, conflict of interest rules, and ensure accurate grant documentation.
- Update and communicate award status, including regular auditing and financial reporting to investigators and leadership.
- Manage post-award processes such as award setup, account verification, effort reporting, cost transfers, invoice payments, and subcontract setup.
- Provide support for grant closeouts and related paperwork as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Four years of experience in sponsored research and/or financial management positions.
- Relevant education may substitute for required experience, subject to the Johns Hopkins University equivalency formula.
- Completion of the Research Administration Training Program (13‑15 months) is equivalent to two years of experience for this position. If the program is not successfully completed, no additional experience will be credited.
- Experience in an academic or medical research setting.
- Knowledge of federal grant and contract guidelines (NIH, NSF, DOD, NASA).
