This Opportunity
Provides subject‑matter technical support and leadership for multi‑site/phase activities to validate construction, integrity, operability, and commissioning of building systems and facility projects in the public and private sector.
Responsibilities include the planning, directing, coordinating, testing, and commissioning (including retro‑commissioning) of building systems such as HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation. The role also provides situational guidance to project managers and staff on documentation, configuration, optimization, testing, recommendations, and commissioning activities that address risk, innovation, and future‑ready opportunities, ensuring that the transition from construction to full operations meets or exceeds industry standards for performance, reliability, safety, and security.
YourImpact
- Collect, compile, and analyze site data throughout various construction phases, including surveys, blueprints, schematics, flow diagrams, and computer reports, to audit energy performance, validate, and commission projects.
- Conduct comprehensive research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, and systems to confirm conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits.
- Oversee configuration, testing specifications, readiness plans, and produce updated checklists, punch lists, and cost estimates in coordination with owners, consulting teams, and clients.
- Manage commissioning deliverables from concept to completion, including design development, procurement, installation, and operation.
- Develop and implement advanced technologies, monitoring methods, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems.
- Provide high‑level technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues related to commissioning of all relevant systems.
- Lead large‑scale commissioning projects, prepare budgets, monitor schedules and expenses, and supervise subcontractors and internal teams.
- Review and approve commissioning plans, contracts, permit applications, and installation inspections to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Create data visualizations (tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations) for complex analyses and presentations.
- Maintain quality control standards and document logs of equipment testing and verification.
- Assist in scoping and developing large or complex commissioning projects.
- Meet with stakeholders to discuss installation and commissioning challenges and opportunities.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain findings, recommendations, and solutions.
- Identify new business development opportunities and build a client base for commissioning services.
- Mentor staff for professional growth and development.
- Stay current on latest commissioning techniques and practices.
- Collaborate across disciplines, including engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians, on building improvement projects and proposals.
- Exercise ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience with building and systems commissioning.
- Proficiency with commissioning principles, practices, design/build, and project application.
- Experience with smart building design.
- Experience in building planning, design, and installation management for renovation and new construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of building technology laws, codes, regulations, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Skilled in technical computations, testing, and data analysis to meet standards.
- Experience conducting inspections and investigations of equipment, facilities, and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong self‑leadership and ability to interact with clients, managers, and employees at all levels.
