The Quantum Collaborative Research Corps (QCoR) at the LPS Qubit Collaboratory (LQC) is seeking a combined Cryogenic/Hardware Engineer to join its technical team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a research-driven environment focused on advancing quantum information science and technology (QIST). The qualified candidate will maintain cryogenic systems, including dilution refrigerators and a helium reliquefication system, and will assist in the development and maintenance of electronic measurement hardware used across multiple research groups.
Salary and Benefits- Salary range: $70,000–$120,000, commensurate with education and experience;

- B.S. in Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field ;
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a laboratory environment ;
- Ability to effectively communicate with technicians, engineers, researchers, and students ;
- Experience with electronic hardware design, assembly, and packaging (e.g., PCB, soldering, wire-bonding) ;
- Experience with cryogenic systems such as dry/wet He4 cryostats, He3 cryostats, dilution refrigerators, or adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators.
- M.S. in one of the above fields OR 2+ years of professional experience ;
- Knowledge of measurement automation and scripting ;
- Experience with current/voltage sources, lock-in amplifiers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and digitizers ;
- Familiarity with vacuum technology, including pumping systems, leak detection, and/or residual gas analysis.
- Operate and maintain dilution refrigerators on the UMD and LQC campuses ;
- Perform diagnostic checks to troubleshoot faulty seals, valves, or cooling performance ;
- Maintain operation of a Cryomech helium liquefier and refill helium dewars ;
- Document equipment status and create standard operating procedures;
- Coordinate with vendors to replenish cryogens and consumables;
- Assist with installation of new equipment.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning measurement equipment and coordinate vendor repairs;
- Assist with PCB design and assembly, including wire-bonding;
- Collaborate with software developers to support automation infrastructure;
- Track and recommend improvements based on industry trends.
