Job Description Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team for an exciting project focused on the biomechanical evaluation of cardiac valves. The project aims to assess stress and strain behavior of native and/or prosthetic heart valves through a combination of benchtop experimental testing and computational simulations (e.g., finite element analysis, fluid-structure interaction). This work will contribute to improving our understanding of valve biomechanics, inform device design, and support the development of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular medicine.

Primary

Duties
  • Design and conduct benchtop experiments to simulate physiological cardiac loading conditions.
  • Develop and validate computational models (FEA/FSI) of cardiac valves.
  • Integrate experimental data with simulation results to evaluate stress and strain distributions.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and scientists across disciplines.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in biomechanics, particularly soft tissue mechanics.
  • Experience with benchtop mechanical testing (e.g., pressure-flow loops, valve testers).
  • Proficiency in computational modeling (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS, FEBio, COMSOL, or similar).
  • Programming and data analysis skills (MATLAB, Python, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cardiovascular physiology and/or cardiac valve function.
  • Familiarity with fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling.
  • Prior publications in relevant areas (biomechanics, cardiovascular modeling).
