Job Requirements
You have experience supporting large capital programs to implement new technologies and systems providing system safety expertise. You are comfortable working in large, complex and fast-paced team environments.
You will work directly with safety, engineering, and operations teams to define, assess, and verify safety performance across complex systems, ensuring safety remains a foundational element in every project phase. You will manage and oversee safety risk assessments, hazard analyses, and system safety evaluations across multiple programs.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing engineering documentation and drawings (i.e., architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, track and communications, civil, systems, etc.) and issuing comments regarding compliance with safety standards, fire codes as well as other local building codes.
- Conducting safety engineering reviews of construction and engineering documents, drawings, specifications and operating procedures to ensure that fire and safety codes, standards and principles are integrated into the project and safety hazards are identified, eliminated, minimized and/or controlled.
- Conducting audits and inspections of rail transit agencies to monitor compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and preparing reports documenting findings and recommendations.
- Conducting site visits in the field to verify safety and security requirements have been met through documentation or visual means and preparing reports.
- Conducting safety analyses of various transportation system components (examples: Railcars, Train Control Systems, Communications Systems, Power Systems, Grade Crossing Systems, etc.) to identify potential safety hazards and mitigation strategies.
- Developing safety and security design criteria and requirements for technical specifications.
- Conducting reviews and analyses of new Standard and Emergency Operating Procedures, operating rules, bulletins and training programs.
- Reviewing accident/incident reports and assisting with the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- First-hand experience conducting accident investigations is a significant plus.
- Implementing the requirements of 49 CFR Parts 659 and 674 and supporting related activities associated with the State Safety Oversight Program.
- Developing and/or reviewing safety training programs for employees and recommending revisions as needed.
- Participating in and/or leading safety committees and safety audit teams and developing comprehensive safety reports.
- Job may require frequent visits to active construction work sites.
