The annual pay range for this position is $178,963 - $221,600/year.

How You Will Contribute:

Duties: Responsible for developing the next generation of Routing and Switching software solutions supporting Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and embedded applications for Layer 2/3 data networking on a wide range of host platforms. Design and implement embedded software (written in C and running over Linux) to configure HW components and manage HW resources, to support datapath requirements for specific Carrier Ethernet applications.

Provide basic project management for individual projects or that of a small team, including effort estimation, project tracking, and status reporting. Provide expertise and direction instrumental to the definition and design of new architectures and technologies. Participate in various phases of product development cycle – product definition, design, planning, implementation and test. Analyze product requirements and customer use cases, proposing software architectures for both current and next-generation hardware platforms.

Prototype and evaluate alternative solutions on target hardware platforms. Deliver detailed architecture, functional specifications and technical design documents. Support developed features through product verification and customer introduction, in addition to providing training to field support personnel. Contribute new features to Ciena’s Service-Aware Operating System (SAOS) embedded software platform, enabling new customers and markets. Expand SAOS support with new platforms in the Ciena Routing & Switching portfolio, including integration of 3rd party “white box” platforms.

Accelerate time to market for Routing & Switching Portfolio products. Redesign and implement Resource Management infrastructure for next generation IP routers. Work in Software Defined Network architectures leveraging technologies such as yocto, docker containers, Google Protocol Buffers, and Intel DPDK libraries.

The Must Haves:

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field and eight (8) years of experience in the job offered or in a Computer Systems Engineers/Architects
-related occupation.

Position requires 8 years of experience in the following:

• C/C++ software development in Linux;

• Leading design and development of Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding plane applications dealing with bridging, IP routing, Segment Routing, MPLS, L3

VPN, traffic management, resource management, ACLs, link aggregation, Frame I/O, OAM and protection protocols;

• Broadcom Ethernet Switching and Routing chipsets, Layer 2 and Layer 3 packet processing pipelines;

• Debugging Broadcom external SDK APIs, hardware registers and tables;
