Duties & ResponsibilitiesThis position will assist the Chief of the Water Programs Division, under the Office of Environmental Design with supervision, management, direction, and administration of work. The Assistant Division Chief also supervises and manages in-house and consultant staff. The main purpose of this program is to ensure SHA is working towards achieving and maintaining compliance with Maryland’s surface water quality standards based on the federal Clean Water Act (CWA) through compliance with NPDES MS4 discharge permit conditions and total maximum daily loads.
This program maintains compliance with state and federal laws and regulations through pollutant modeling, geographic analysis, site searches, design, permitting, advertisement and construction of various types of best management practices, Geographic Information System (GIS) tracking, field inspections and remediation, public outreach, coordination with other state and federal agencies, and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, environmental sciences, landscape architecture, or a related field.
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in a water quality related environmental design or compliance program. Two (2) years of this experience must have involved overseeing and coordinating the general operations of the team or program.
