Waterfront & Coastal Engineer / Project Manager

Our waterfront and coastal design group is seeking a Heavy Civil / Structural Engineer / Waterfront & Coastal Engineer / Project Manager who has a desire to focus on Waterfront & Coastal Projects for our Mid-Atlantic offices. This role is an opportunity to partner with senior technical experts in our East Region and work on a variety of coastal and waterfront projects including community waterfronts, marinas, marine terminals, recreational piers, harbors, and waterfront parks.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage a variety of heavy civil / waterfront / coastal projects with varying complexity and size.
  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Serve as a technical lead for the design of waterfront projects, including preparing construction drawings, contract documents, technical specifications, regulatory filings, cost estimates, and reports.
  • Manage on-site field staff and act as the primary point of contact in discussions with clients and contractors.
  • Provide technical direction and training to staff, as necessary to complete assignments.
  • Take a significant role securing new work for a growing component of our business, including proposal preparation, client development, and networking.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior staff.

Qualifications

  • B.S or M.S. in Civil, Waterfront, Coastal, or Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience working on waterfront and coastal design projects with structural aspects. Prior experience in marine, bridge, or heavy civil engineering design is preferred.
  • Registered professional engineer within the Atlantic and/or New England states, or ability to obtain reciprocity in within 1 year of hire date.
  • Ability to travel for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage small to medium projects in all phases of engineering design including field investigations, preliminary designs, regulatory approvals, final design, and development of contract documents.
  • Experience with regulatory/environmental permitting associated with waterfront infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with coastal circulation and wave modeling programs assisting in the design of piers, docks, rip-rap revetments, seawalls, bulkheads, and marinas.
  • Experience supporting beach nourishment and living shoreline projects.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modelling for stormwater collection systems and coastal outfall structure design is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
