Position Summary The Principal Engineer is a senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) and recognized technical authority in a specialized area of electric transmission and substation (T&S) engineering. This role is responsible for leading complex studies, developing and updating technical standards, and providing high-level consultation and recommendations to Power Rise and our clients. The Principal Engineer will tackle the most challenging technical issues, influence strategic decisions, and mentor other engineers, ensuring that our solutions are innovative, reliable, and at the forefront of the industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advanced Engineering & Technical Leadership:
    Lead and perform assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive engineering expertise, such as power system studies, protection scheme design, or equipment specification.
  • Serve as the technical lead on a small number of highly complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement solutions for projects that have significant financial and operational impact on our clients.
  • Studies, Standards & Consultation:
    Lead teams in developing complex studies, plans, criteria, and design documents associated with the planning, design, licensing, and operation of T&S facilities.
  • Provide expert consultation and recommendations to clients as a result of studying their systems, processes, or equipment.
  • Participate in creating, updating, and applying internal and industry wide standards and technologies in your specialized area of expertise.
  • Industry Engagement & Mentorship:
    Participate in technical and industry societies and committees (e.g., IEEE, CIGRE) to enhance knowledge of new technologies and influence industry standards.
  • Provide detailed technical training, mentorship, and peer review to other engineers within Power Rise and our client organizations.
  • Act as an expert witness or provide expert opinions for internal committees or regulatory proceedings as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience with a thorough knowledge and recognized expertise in a unique area of T&S engineering.
  • Proven ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex, multifaceted issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and perform assignments independently and lead multidiscipline teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical topics to a variety of audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is strongly preferred.
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Prior experience as a technical lead on medium and large scale engineering projects.
  • A working knowledge of advanced analysis software packages (e.g., CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PSCAD, MATLAB).
  • Published technical documents or leadership roles in recognized industry committees.
