Duties & ResponsibilitiesThis is a senior or advanced level professional civil/water resources engineering work applying engineering theories, principles and standards to a variety of complex engineering projects and processes in the design and support of drainage/stormwater asset management and/or highway development. This recruitment is for current vacancies in the Office of Highway Development (OHD) Highway Hydraulics Division (HHD) but could be used to fill other vacancies in OHD in the future.
This position will work with engineers, surveyors, and technicians. This position will complete engineering analysis, design and project management functions necessary to support the HHD’s drainage infrastructure projects. This position will be assigned to an engineering team in HHD. Design experience may include drainage design, stormwater management (SWM), erosion and sediment control (ESC), highway design or land development engineering. The Civil Engineer may also function as a project manager on drainage projects, such as system preservation projects, with guidance from a senior level engineer.
This position may be responsible for coordinating with federal, state, county, and municipal agencies, as well as elected officials, citizens, developers, consultant engineers, contractors, and industry vendors/manufactures. In addition, the individual is a resource to assist in revising policies, manuals, and guidelines, updating standards and specifications, completing asset management activities, and developing reports. This position may be responsible for engineering review and permitting activities related to statutory and regulatory requirements such as AASHTO guidelines, Maryland’s Sediment Control and Stormwater Management guidelines, or other applicable design criteria for all SHA projects.
Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in professional engineering.
Selective
Qualification:
Two (2) years of the required experience must have involved being lead designer or project manager for drainage, stormwater management and/or stream/outfall restoration projects.
