Graduate Transportation Engineer

Join Pennoni as a Graduate Transportation Engineer on a full‑time, direct basis. This role is part of the Transportation Engineering team and works across a variety of disciplines.

• Participate in the development of engineering design projects, producing plans, documents, and reports.
• Apply standard engineering design principles.
• Use 3‑D modelling software (Micro Station / InRoads or AutoCADD / Civil 3D) for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Develop transportation infrastructure plans including highway design, hydrology and drainage calculations, SWM/E&S design, water and sanitary sewer utilities, MOT plans, geometry, etc.
• Support projects and tasks for clients such as state agencies, counties, and local municipalities.

• Assist with the structural analysis and/or design of bridges (highway & railroad), culverts, retaining walls, and overhead sign structures on a variety of projects.
• Supplement the bridge design functions with involvement in NBIS Bridge inspections across the Pennoni footprint on an as‑needed basis.
• Produce high‑quality engineering documents for bridge design, inspection reports, specifications, studies, and other engineering documents.

• Assist with traffic engineering tasks such as traffic impact analysis (TIA), safety evaluations, signal analysis and design, and preparation of signing and pavement marking plans, MOT / construction phasing plans, transportation management plans (TMPs), and lighting plans.
• Review traffic studies from third parties for new developments and projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Structural Engineering).

• E. / E.I.T. is a plus.
• Established knowledge of civil engineering principles such as development of geometric information, structural analysis, steel/concrete design, basic hydrology/hydraulics, and basic geotechnical/foundation design.
• Relevant experience with engineering software, such as Micro Station and AutoCAD.
• Experience and interest in working on various levels of engineering infrastructure projects in the Mid‑Atlantic region.
• Organization and planning ability is a plus.

• Basic understanding of engineering design parameters is a plus.
• Relevant experience with highway geometry development, water resources design, or overall plan preparation is a plus.
• Exposure to modeling tools such as Open Roads is a plus.
• Experience working with highway and/or roadway design is strongly preferred.
• Experience with drainage design, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control; completion of Certified Construction Review (CCR) training is a plus.
• Exposure to Bluebeam Revu (PDF editor) and/or GIS tools is a plus.

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering focus is a plus.
• Successful completion of FHWA‑NHI‑13005 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges).
• Bridge engineering experience with a major agency is a plus.
• Knowledge of structural analysis programs (e.g., STAAD, LEAP Bridge, LEAP Concrete, AASHTOWare, BrR, BRASS, SAP/CSI, etc.) is a plus.

• Working knowledge of traffic signal design software (SYNCHRO) is a plus.
• Exposure to modeling tools such as Open Roads is a plus.
• Familiarity with maintenance of traffic schemes, construction phasing, and traffic control plans.
• Experience with lighting design software is a plus.

$60,000 – $75,000 (per year)
