Job SummaryMorgan State University's Department of Architecture offers a pre-professional Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design (AREN) and a Master of Architecture (M.Arch), one of only two accredited professional architecture programs in Maryland-and the only one located in Baltimore. The department's comprehensive curriculum spans design, history, theory, technology, and professional practice, preparing graduates for employment in leading architecture firms and licensure as registered architects.
Alumni are well-equipped to assume leadership roles in both public agencies and the private sector. Through collaboration with related disciplines-including Landscape Architecture, City & Regional Planning, and Construction Management-the Department fosters an interdisciplinary approach, cultivating analytical skills, design thinking, and technical proficiency in its students. The School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) at Morgan State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level within the Department of Architecture. This role will focus on Architectural Design, with a particular emphasis on one or more of the following areas:
Beginning Design Education and Global Architectural History. The appointment is for a 9.5-month academic year.
We seek a dynamic and visionary colleague who will contribute to the expansion and enhancement of the curriculum in their areas of expertise. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to integrating teaching, research, and service while fostering a collaborative and innovative learning environment. Applicants should possess a strong record of professional and academic achievements, as well as the readiness to engage in the responsibilities of a faculty member at a Carnegie-designated R2 research institution.
We welcome applications from individuals currently engaged in professional practice or academic roles, as well as those seeking to contribute to the advancement of the field of architecture.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other CharacteristicsCandidates should demonstrate a proven record of scholarly and/or creative achievements, including publications, conference presentations, and other professional activities. Evidence of sustained engagement within the field-such as exhibited creative work or a strong presence in peer-reviewed academic and industry forums-is essential. A notable reputation among colleagues and within the broader architectural community is highly valued.
RequiredMinimum Qualifications
- A professional degree in architecture or a related field
- Professional licensure or Ph.D.
- Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues in a collaborative environment and relate to a diverse student population
- An agenda for a program of research
- Prior teaching at a collegiate level/research / professional experience
- Demonstrated ability to pursue external funding and lead transdisciplinary projects.
