Job SummaryA Program Assistant I provides assistance to others in planning and implementing education, health, recreation, social and other programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed at various facilities where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
Minimum QualificationsOn or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
- Education:
Completion of two years at an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Have one year of experience in program development or coordination. - Equivalency:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of the techniques of program coordination and development.
- Ability to identify the needs and resolve the problems of program participants.
- Ability to plan and organize program use.
- Ability to collect, compile and examine program data.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with program staff and participants.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education AccreditationApplicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
