Major Responsibility
Environmental Educators lead Baltimore City elementary school-aged students in outdoor enrichment activities at their site and in local parks as a part of Super Kids Camp. Educators are part of a dynamic team that delivers interactive, nature-based activities on topics such as stream and forest habitats, park history, growing plants, and observing animals. Employment is seasonal and the position requires approximately 25-30 hours per week.

Essential Functions Delivery of Instruction- Deliver hands-on environmental activities to Super Kids campers
- Adapt lessons and curriculum to site and different student groups when necessary
- Engage students around environmental stewardship and encourage positive behaviors
- Provide feedback and creative input for activity plans, curriculum and program structure, as well as helping to develop activities
- Assign tasks to high-school aged assistants that involve lesson delivery and behavior management
- Participate in other camp activities as requested and as appropriate to position
- Be a positive role model for campers and demonstrate good environmental stewardship
- Ensure adherence to schedule through smooth and timely transition between daily activities
- Assists with the setup, maintenance, storage and transport of supplies and materials
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 18+ years of age
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Complete a background investigation (cost incurred by Parks & People)
- Experience working with adolescents
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations
- Ability to lead team and model appropriate behavior among colleagues and in the community
- Positive people skills and ability to lead team using positive behavior management techniques
- Communicates clear expectations and provides regular feedback to program participants
- Ability to diffuse conflict
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously
- Works well in challenging conditions and with a diverse population
- Available during the entirety of program Monday through Thursday, June between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Teaching experience (elementary level)
- Knowledge of environmental education and youth development
Attendance at all orientation and training sessions is mandatory. We are unable to accommodate vacations or outside commitments during the following dates:
June 22 – 26: Staff Training Week (Full Week)
June 29 – August 6: Active Camp Season
August 5: Intern Dinner and Final Presentations
