SummaryThe Howard Hub Counselor is an energetic, second-level customer service position within the Howard Hub focusing on resolving student inquiries and requests. This position is part of a team that works collaboratively with partner offices to resolve student issues in an efficient and effective manner. The Howard Hub provides centralized and coordinated cross-functional support services for Howard Community College students and families in admissions, financial aid, testing, registration, veteran services, payments, and student billing.
The Howard Hub Counselor will serve as a subject matter expert and will provide high-level expertise within one of the enrollment services departments to resolve student inquiries and requests.
- Create a warm and welcoming environment for students.
- Provide start to finish service and clearly communicate information and action items to the student to help resolve student requests and inquiries.
- Be a subject matter expert in one of the service areas of admissions, financial aid, registration and records, testing, veterans' affairs, and student financial services.
- Execute calling campaigns to support enrollment services.
- Assist students with payment processes.
- May provide information to students and parents on financial aid eligibility requirements, application processes and procedures, status of financial aid application/awards and required additional documentation in person, on the phone, and via email/electronic inquiry.
- Determine if the student's inquiry requires further follow-up and direct the inquiry to the appropriate source for resolution as necessary.
- Employ technology to assist students with navigating self-service.
- Identify trends and bring ideas to improve student service.
- Communicate with faculty and staff across the institution as necessary to resolve conflicting information.
- Provide guidance and support through the admissions process assisting students, as needed, with the submission of required documentation and ensuring application completion.
- Employ technology to assist students with navigating the admissions application process.
- Maintain working knowledge of FERPA.
- May perform some registration and record functions, including changes of information, residency appeals, duplicate record resolution, music institution registrations, and researching and responding to inquiries by phone, email, or in-person.

Preferred Experience- Minimum associate degree, bachelors preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; confidence speaking with people from diverse backgrounds; ability to quickly establish rapport, engage with students and families, and provide follow-through.
- Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.
- Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students and families.

Work extended hours during peak periods, including evening and some Saturdays. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility required. Ability to lift boxes of materials up to 50 lbs.
