Position Summary

The Bryn Mawr School, an independent, college-preparatory school in Baltimore for girls grades PK – 12, seeks applicants new to teaching for a 1 - 2 year-long teaching fellowship program to begin August, 2026.

Named in honor of a true expert in her field who inspired confidence and a love of learning in her students for over 60 years, the Dorothy Clayborne Fellowship will include mentoring, professional development and experiential learning for aspiring teachers from underrepresented backgrounds.

Bryn Mawr is committed to mentoring teaching candidates in experiencing the delights and demands of both teaching and learning. Through observation, practice, and study groups the fellows are introduced to teaching while exploring and engaging in the wide range of opportunities a career in independent education can offer.

Fellows will be integral and active members of the faculty through participation in advising, retreats, athletics, arts, clubs, DEI training, and service learning. Individual interests, both in the classroom and beyond, will help shape each fellowship experience. Fellows explore teaching in a setting where education is both a profession and a passion.

Responsibilities and Experiences
  • Learn the art and craft of excellent teaching by observing and co-teaching with an experienced teacher.
  • Be an integral and active member of the faculty and the life of the school by participating in extracurricular programming.
  • Participate fully in advisory, faculty meetings, department/grade level meetings and community professional development opportunities.
  • Learn through observation, study, mentoring, practice, and evaluation.
  • Pursue opportunities for personal and professional growth that come from working with engaged and intellectually curious students.
  • Develop a personal philosophy of teaching through experience and reflection.
  • Participate in Bryn Mawr’s Teaching Institute by attending sessions for all new teachers that address teaching and learning, assessments, classroom management, curriculum planning, single-sex education, multiculturalism, and independent school culture, among other topics.
  • Engage with departmental colleagues by bringing energy, vitality and an openness to sharing new ideas.
  • Take advantage of hands-on personal leadership development.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
  • Genuine interest in exploring all aspects of independent school teaching and learning including classroom instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in extracurricular activities.
  • Enthusiasm for Bryn Mawr’s mission of inspiring a passion for intellectual curiosity and nurturing the full potential of our young women in mind, body, and spirit.
  • Outstanding academic record and demonstrate a consistent passion for teaching and learning, evidenced by experience in camps or youth programs, teaching internships, or advanced studies within their field.
  • Commitment to providing an education that is rooted in the ideals of equity and justice and that reflects the diverse identities, experiences, and voices of our constituents
  • Passion for teaching and the ability to receive and reflect on feedback to grow professionally from the experience
