The Bryn Mawr School seeks an enthusiastic and growth-minded Middle School science teacher to engage students in the study of earth science and laboratory experiences intended to foster inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, and a sense of discovery.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeach 4 sections of 6th grade science, emphasizing foundational scientific thinking and lab skills within the context of earth science topics including geology, meteorology, and oceanography.
Lead an advisory of 8-10 students
Attend grade level, departmental, and divisional meetings
Provide a safe, predictable, and supportive environment for all students in all settings
Build productive and appropriate relationships with students
Provide an empowering student-centered learning environment that is equitable, inclusive, and respectful.
Implement methods and practices that engage and challenge students, allowing them to build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance, and aspire toward developing and teaching the whole child.
Provide assessments and feedback that help students build appropriate skills and content mastery in alignment with the middle school curriculum
Authentically engage in annual self-reflection and goal-setting; engage in annual professional development; demonstrate progress toward goals; remain open and responsive to feedback from students, parents, colleagues, and administrators
Qualifications/Skills/RequirementsBachelors or Masters degree in Science, Education, or related field
3-5 years teaching experience preferred
Desire and ability to work with Middle School students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward completing a rigorous, skills-focused curriculum
Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
Willingness to support the life of the school community beyond classroom teaching/advising
Commitment to using conversation norms and constructive engagement at all times with students, caregivers, colleagues; speak positively about school and community members in all contexts
Opportunities to lead stipended extracurricular programs (e.g., athletics, arts, after-school programming) are available.
Salary and Benefits- Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience, education, skills, and job-related responsibilities. Teaching candidates will be offered a salary between $50,000 and $75,000. Candidates with additional experience or qualifications may be offered a salary outside the range shown.
