Job SummaryA Community Health Educator III designs, organizes and conducts health educational and promotional programs. This class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Work is performed in an office with a conventional workweek and normal working conditions. Minimal physical exertion is required.
Minimum QualificationsOn or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
- Education: Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
- AND Have two years of experience performing public or community health education work.
- OR Equivalency Notes:
Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience performing public or community health education work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s license or learner permits are not acceptable.
- Note: You must upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with your application at the time of applying.
- Notes: In some designated positions, specific experience providing community health education in HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Tuberculosis may be required. Some positions may require fluency in languages other than English (reading, writing, speaking and translating).
- Criminal records: Some eligibles under final consideration will be required to authorize release of criminal conviction information.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education.
- Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
- Knowledge of the facts and prevention of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, STD and Tuberculosis.
- Ability to design, organize, conduct and evaluate community health education and promotion programs.
- Ability to utilize computer and common business presentation software to prepare education materials.
- Ability to develop and conduct in-service training programs in health education.
- Ability to act as a health education consultant and to work with city government officials, personnel and community groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint.
- Probation: A mandatory six-month probation is required for all selected candidates.
- Eligibility: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for at least six months. The Director of Human Resources makes the final qualification decisions.
- Education Accreditation: Education must be from an accredited institution. US equivalency evaluations may be required for credentials earned outside the US (see (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
- Selection Process: All candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list. Training and experience will be evaluated. Provide complete and accurate information on your application.
- Examination Process: Applicants may be required to complete supplemental questions. The examination will consider education, training, and experience as presented on the application.
