Salary Range: $37,965.00 - $43,781.00 Annually. Hiring Salary Range: $37,965.00 - $40,873.00 Annually.

An Associate Teacher Preschool plans activities and lessons for preschool children under the supervision of the teacher and instructs a group of children. Work in this class involves no supervisory duties. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work is performed in a classroom where there are no uncomfortable conditions.
Work requires minimal physical exertion; however, incumbents may walk, kneel or sit on the floor with pupils.
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certification from an accredited institution.
AND
Experience: Have three years of experience working with preschool children in a day care center.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. An associate of arts degree in early childhood education may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: N/A.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge of the development and behavior of preschool children.
- Knowledge of teaching aids and instructional materials.
- Ability to plan instructional activities for a group of preschool children.
- Ability to teach lessons and readiness skills.
- Ability to recognize and report specific problems in children.
- Ability to maintain records and write reports.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education AccreditationApplicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
Selection ProcessAll candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. ExaminationProcess
