Baltimore Emerging Scholars Instructor (CTY - Strategic Partnerships & Programming)

Founded in 1979, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a center for innovation dedicated to advancing gifted education through research, testing, programs, and support for advanced learners. This role involves teaching the Baltimore Emerging Scholars program, a 25‑week advanced enrichment course designed to develop critical thinking and inquiry‑based learning for students in grades 1‑5 at selected Baltimore City Schools.

Instructor duties include planning and conducting classes in accordance with CTY guidelines, monitoring student progress, providing timely feedback, maintaining a positive classroom environment, evaluating curriculum effectiveness, supporting CTY research efforts, and collaborating with program leadership and school staff. Instructors also provide support to peers and may participate in training, professional development, and team meetings.

• Use the provided CTY curriculum and instructional materials to develop daily objectives and lessons.
• Monitor students' academic progress toward stated objectives and communicate progress with program leadership.
• Provide meaningful and detailed feedback on assignments in a timely manner.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Evaluate curriculum effectiveness and assist in refining the curriculum to enhance student performance.
• Aid in the facilitation of CTY research efforts related to the Emerging Scholars program.
• Maintain productive relationships through communication with students, parents/guardians, program leadership, and school staff.
• Escalate any concerns to leadership.
• Work collaboratively as a team member to provide support to other instructors.

Additional Information:

• Applicants must be authorized to work in the US.
• Applicants must be able to report to their assigned school in Baltimore, Maryland, during the approved program dates and times.
• All employees participating in or serving children in University programs must complete mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training regarding conduct around children, protection from abuse and neglect, and reporting of suspected abuse.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a content‑related field.
• Five years of teaching experience.
• Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Salary: $48,000 – $84,100 annually (4,500 targeted; commensurate with experience).
