The Y in Central Maryland is hiring a Head Start Substitute Teacher for the Baltimore City area. This role supports early childhood education in our Head Start program, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for children from diverse backgrounds.
Job OverviewAs a Y Substitute Teacher for Head Start, you will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to ensure successful operation of a classroom. You may be called upon when needed, and will work at various locations throughout the Y’s Head Start areas of operation. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program, and will contribute to the creation of an environment that fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in your care.
Responsibilities- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to maintain a smooth and engaging classroom environment.
- Provide consistent care and support to children in the Head Start program.
- Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all children in your care.
- Support children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development.
- Work at various locations throughout the Y’s Head Start areas as needed.
- Interest in the well‑being and education of young children, enthusiasm, patience, good humor, good judgment, and a good spirit.
- Some prior early childhood experience.
- The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates.
