Tenure‑Track Faculty – Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics
Johns Hopkins University has made a major investment in Data Science and AI. The university will add 150 new faculty positions, including 30 Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships, and has established a new Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI Institute). A new half‑million square foot building and cutting‑edge computational infrastructure are under construction. This expansion will double the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics from 20 full‑time regular faculty in 2023 to 40 by 2028.
This search is to fill faculty positions in the DSAI Institute. We invite applications for tenured or tenure‑track faculty positions in all areas of the mathematical sciences. The successful candidate will have a home in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (and possibly another Whiting School of Engineering department) and will support one or more of the following cross‑departmental DSAI clusters:
- Foundational methods of Machine Learning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence
- Embodied AI Systems
- Health and Medicine
- Scientific Discovery
- Engineered AI systems
- People, Policy, Governance, and Ethics of AI
- Security and Safety of Autonomous Systems
Preference will be given to candidates whose research has made an impact on data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Outstanding candidates at all academic ranks will be considered. We anticipate making multiple offers.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related fields.
- Established, independently funded research program that is multidisciplinary and internationally recognized.
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students.
- Develop and maintain a world‑class research program in the data science and AI domain.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses as required.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the university, including the DSAI Institute, Mathematical Institute for Data Science, SNF Agora Institute, Carey Business School, and many others.
- Participate in service activities for the department, school, and university.

Assistant Professor applicants must also submit at least three reference letters. Associate or Full Professor applicants need not include reference letters at this stage.

Salary and BenefitsSalary ranges (12‑month FTE):
Assistant Professor: $150k – $200k
Associate Professor: $180k – $245k
Full Professor: $200k – $450k
