The University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM‑IHC) is recruiting for a tenure‑track physician‑scientist with expertise in clinical trial design and execution to serve as Director of Clinical Trial Innovation.

UM‑IHC is a large‑scale initiative focused on computational and analytical methods to build a learning health system that improves the quality of life and longevity of Maryland residents. It is located in North Bethesda, MD, and is a collaborative effort of the University of Maryland Baltimore, the University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Maryland Medical System, funded by initial grants from the State of Maryland’s MPower initiative and Montgomery County, MD.

Key focus areas include population health, clinical trial innovation, data analytics, therapeutic target discovery, and education and training.

The selected candidate will collaborate with faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the University of Maryland College of Computing, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, and other schools within the University of Maryland System, as well as physicians and data scientists from the University of Maryland Medical System. Responsibilities include leading a research program that integrates data science with clinical trial methodologies in a multi‑site health system, supervising and mentoring staff and fellows within the UM‑IHC, and providing clinical service in the candidate’s chosen field as needed.

Qualified applicants will contribute to the research, teaching, and/or clinical missions of the University, sustain an externally funded individual research program consistent with the School of Medicine’s vision, and enhance research opportunities for other School of Medicine faculty and trainees. A medical degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent) is required, and candidates must be Board‑Certified or Board‑Eligible in an appropriate specialty and eligible for a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.

Expected faculty rank for this position is Assistant Professor or higher, with final rank, tenure status, and salary commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
