The Sr Principal Giving Strategy Associate is a critical member of the Office of Principal Giving team, working closely with both the Proposals and Briefings teams to align stakeholders in cohesive relationship building for principal gift donors and prospective donors. The Sr Associate works in a fast-paced environment, often acting as a creative activator in working with leadership across DAR to build out meaningful engagement and relationship‑advancing opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Working with leadership, draft and create visuals for budget models for programming, proposals, gift agreements, and MOUs.
- Work closely with leaders within and beyond DAR to collect information, review data quality and visualize findings and facts for internal and external audiences.
- Identify the data resources available and needed to create or manage a set of reporting tools that help understand the history, the current state, and the forecast of programs for the next 3-5 years.
- Provide project support for organization‑wide projects/initiatives as required, facilitating team efforts and helping to define project goals, timelines, resource requirements, and planning to cope with conflict or stressor points in the plans.
- Staff and support university leadership on strategic planning sessions for groups to clarify, communicate, and act upon the vision and goals of their department/division within the context of the university's mission, vision, and values.
- Implement overall communications strategy for the designated executive leadership function, including written, verbal, and multimedia messaging.
- In partnership with leadership support the ongoing, personalized stewardship of external relationships for Johns Hopkins, including the writing and editing of materials, particularly related to the impact of philanthropic support.
- Collaborate with leadership to craft compelling narratives that highlight the impact of philanthropic support.
- Manage the creation and dissemination of strategic communication materials, including reports, presentations, and digital content.
- As directed, prepare and share a variety of communications internal and external to the University, including announcements, memos, briefings, presentations, and stories.
- At the direction of leadership, build close partnerships with program across DAR to allow for more seamless identifying, collecting, and recording of data.
- Establish and maintain positive, productive, collaborative relationships with Directors and development officers across divisions.
- Develop an understanding of divisional fundraising and academic priorities and consult with DOFFs about emerging opportunities or communication needs.
- Build effective follow‑up and follow‑through mechanisms for partnerships across the institution.

In addition to the duties described above, the Sr. Principal Giving Strategy Associate will:
- Be a key partner in articulating Johns Hopkins priorities, high‑level strategic planning, and transformative initiatives that result in new principal level proposals.
- Conduct significant independent research, writing, and editing for transformational proposals and special development projects as an accomplished writer.
- Determine overarching themes and best methods for visual and written representation of the most relevant elements within large amounts of complex information and data.
- Serve as a member of the Briefings Team as a researcher, writer, and editor of briefings for the president, provost, and other university officials for meetings and events for the president and other university leadership, by working collaboratively with development offices across the institution.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three years of progressively responsible related experience in development, communications, or external relations.
- Advanced degree.
- Professional report creation, graphic design, or grant writing experience.
- Experience in creating briefings for executive level leadership.
- Familiarity with fundraising, grant writing, or institutional advancement and development.
- Experience in writing for higher education and/or public health is desirable.
- Experience in academic or large nonprofit institutions, preferably in the advancement, development, or donor relations environments.
- Candidates should be prepared to provide writing samples.
