Join the Grants & Contracts Analyst role at The Johns Hopkins University to support the Finance Managers of the Institute for Education Policy and the Center for Research and Reform in Education. The position focuses on pre‑award and post‑award activities across CRRE (60%) and IEP (40%).

The analyst will spend three full days per week with CRRE and two full days per week with IEP. Responsibilities span proposal preparation, budgeting, account maintenance, invoicing, reporting, compliance, and closeout for federally funded and sponsored awards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with faculty and budget staff to plan and develop grant submissions to federal agencies, foundations, and commercial sponsors.
  • Understand and apply institutional policies for pre‑award grant processes and sponsor guidelines.
  • Review grant proposals for accuracy, content, and adherence to guidelines before forwarding to the Grants & Contracts Manager and ORA.
  • Provide instruction and support related to grant application procedures.
  • Serve as liaison among research units, central offices, and funding agencies.
  • Review budgets and justifications for completeness; ensure proper allocation of direct and indirect costs.
  • Assist in subcontract negotiations and ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional policies.
  • Manage grant submissions, timelines, and accuracy; maintain updates and communications with PIs and leadership.
  • Set up awards in the designated department/division, verify award set‑up, and ensure personnel are appropriately configured.
  • Handle post‑award responsibilities: budget distribution, account reconciliation, effort reporting, cost transfers, invoicing, and subcontract paperwork.
  • Conduct complex award management activities, oversee accounts, audits, evaluations, and reporting.
  • Provide assistance for contract and grant closeouts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Duties
  • Prepare contract paperwork for the Johns Hopkins Agreement Workflow System (JAWS).
  • Work with Sponsored Projects Shared Services (SPSS) to set up awards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of administrative or budgeting experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience; successful completion of the Research Administration Training Program (13–15 months) equates to two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the Johns Hopkins accounting system and fiscal offices.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Experience with Concur, JHURA, JAWS, and SPSS.
Technical Qualifications
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines for NIH, NSF, DOD, and NASA grants.
