Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Business Development Manager - Finance
. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices
.

Objective

As a Business Development Manager - Finance, you will play a pivotal role in driving revenue growth by leading strategic business development efforts across the Finance Business Unit. You will collaborate with sector leaders, practice heads, and the broader business development team to identify and activate high‑value opportunities, elevate Orrick’s brand presence, and drive client engagement through targeted, market‑driven initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Client Development
    • Develop a deep understanding of our Finance Business Unit and its clients to effectively drive strategic priorities.
    • Cultivate strong relationships with partners and associates to become a trusted advisor.
    • Lead the creation of customized Finance pitches, presentations, and RFP replies, in collaboration with the pitch team.
    • Collaborate with partners, attorneys, and other Business Development teams to deliver thought leadership that solidifies Orrick’s reputation as market leaders.
    • Support the onboarding of lateral partners.
    • Help implement business development initiatives and thought leadership campaigns that align with market and sector strategies.
    • Partner with global Business Development colleagues to drive cross‑sector collaboration and cross‑selling opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the Market Intelligence team to deliver market and competitor insights that guide strategic planning and targeting.
  • Communications & Marketing
    • Support the execution of high‑impact branding initiatives, including events, speaking slots, CLEs, and sponsored programs, in collaboration with the Events and Communications teams.
    • Oversee the development and timely submission of content for legal directories and awards.
    • Ensure the collection and maintenance of attorney experience and client information in Orrick’s experience database – O(ex) and client relationship system – R(ex).
    • Maintain and update BD materials and digital content to ensure consistency with the firm’s branding and messaging.
  • Project Management and Team Collaboration
    • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
    • Structure tasks and collaborate with team members to facilitate smooth project execution.
    • Support other team members, helping them achieve their goals and ensuring overall team success.
    • Lead and deliver special projects from conception to completion, ensuring goals are met and standards are upheld.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of marketing or business development experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Experienced in managing core business development responsibilities, including RFP preparation, legal directory submissions, and overseeing collaboration across teams for events, conferences, branding, and external communications.
  • Superb judgment and decision‑making capabilities with a strategic mindset to guide the organization toward its goals.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Highly skilled in resolving conflicts and handling challenging interpersonal situations with diplomacy, tact, and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively across a variety of channels.
  • Outstanding ability to analyze complex work streams, identify and manage project risks, and develop efficient mitigation strategies.
  • Proven focus on developing, implementing, and enforcing strategic processes to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
