About the Job:

The Baltimore Banner is seeking a collaborative, detail‑focused, and analytical Staff Accountant who enjoys problem‑solving and process improvement while contributing to our Finance team’s accounting operations.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the day‑to‑day accounting of the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, employee expense reporting, and bank reconciliations. This position reports to the Controller.

What you’ll do:
  • Post daily cash entries from the bank to the general ledger for various business entities
  • Process vendor invoices for approval and payment
  • Review and process employee reimbursements
  • Review and process corporate credit card transactions
  • Prepare reconciliations of cash accounts and other balance sheet accounts
  • Assist with month and year‑end closing
  • Assist with sales & use tax filings
  • Assist with annual audit and 990 filing
  • Create and maintain adequate process documentation for all tasks assigned that can be used to cross‑train other personnel
  • Suggest and assist with process improvements
  • Collaborate on IT systems enhancements and implementation
  • Perform other tasks & duties as assigned or required
What you’ll bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or
  • 2+ years related experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations
  • Familiarity with financial analysis and reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other office productivity tools
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or issues
  • Good problem‑solving skills to resolve accounting‑related issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non‑financial stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and assist in various accounting tasks as needed
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

Salary Range: $75K - $85K
