Job Overview

Our non‑profit client is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to directly support the Director of Finance and Accounting in a wide range of financial duties including payroll processing, accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations, and month‑end close out procedures.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and manage all aspects of bi‑weekly payroll and benefits administration for multi‑state companies.
  • Oversee the timesheet process, train new employees in the payroll system, and prepare payroll journal entries.
  • Prepare 403B retirement contribution calculations, serve as the finance lead for the 403(b) retirement plan audits, and ensure all payroll tax returns are timely filed.
  • Manage workers’ compensation insurance plans, annual audits, and prepare allocation journal entries for ZTT cell phones and internet stipends.
  • Perform all accounts payable functions, review check requests and invoices, and manage vendor invoices regularly.
  • Review and process credit memos, voided checks, and unsubmitted expense reports with staff and supervisors.
  • Prepare month‑end accrual and prepaid reconciliations, manage corporate credit cards, and upload them into our accounting system.
  • Prepare IRS Forms 1099, respond to vendor and staff inquiries, and support the accounting team in month‑end closings and financial audits.
  • Apply accounting principles following standardized, well‑established procedures, and ensure the operational effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Continuously streamline accounting systems and processes via process improvement and automation to achieve greater efficiencies, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with all aspects of payroll processing for 100+ employees.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a nonprofit accounting department performing accounts payable functions, G/L entries, reconciliations, and month close responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience using Sage Intacct.
  • Experience processing expenses in Concur is a plus but not required.
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and strong competency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Strong work ethic, meticulousness, and ability to work accurately, efficiently, and on time.
  • Highly motivated self‑starter who can work diligently with minimal supervision and effectively troubleshoot accounting discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, time‑management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality of sensitive information.
