We're looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter to join our engineering team at Tendley Quarry in Cockermouth, Cumbria. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a site where no two days are the same and your work truly keeps the wheels turning.
The role is easily commutable from Workington, Keswick, Whitehaven, Troutbeck, Grasmere, Penrith, Carlisle, and surrounding areas.

What You'll Be DoingAs a key member of our 24/7 engineering function, you'll help keep the plant running safely, smoothly and efficiently. Your day-to-day will include:
- Responding quickly and effectively to plant breakdowns
- Delivering both temporary fixes and well-planned permanent solutions
- Carrying out emergency repairs across all production equipment
- Leading small projects with a practical, down-to-earth approach
- Working cost consciously and helping drive efficiency
- Coordinating with contractors and suppliers onsite
- Participating in root-cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures
- Welding and fabricating to a high standard
- Using risk assessments and safe working methods
- Supporting the continual improvement of engineering processes
- Keeping accurate records in our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Always promoting and living our strong Health & Safety culture
We'd love to hear from you if you're self‑motivated, hands‑on and thrive in an industrial environment. You'll need to be confident working independently while also being a great team player.
- A solid mechanical background – ideally in heavy industry (conveyors, crushers, vibratory screens, gearboxes, motors, pumps etc.)
- Strong fault‑finding skills and the ability to recommend practical solutions
- Experience delivering breakdown repairs efficiently under pressure
- Good IT skills and confidence using systems and applications
- Knowledge of SHE procedures, safe working practices and risk control
- A recognised mechanical apprenticeship (higher level preferred)
- ONC/HNC is desirable but not essential
