Manufacturing and Production, Sittingbourne, Kent £30,000 - £40,000 per annum Permanent
This role is a New Product Designer. We are seeking an experienced New Product Designer to join a dynamic product development team focused on furniture solutions. You will own end-to-end product development for hard and outdoor furniture, taking concepts through design, prototyping and manufacture-ready release.
Key responsibilities- Lead end-to-end product development programs from concept, feasibility and prototyping to PPAP/production release and post-launch support
- Design hard furniture and outdoor furniture products with a focus on durability, function, cost and manufacturability
- Produce detailed 2D drawings, 3D models and assembly documentation using Inventor or equivalent CAD tools
- Specify materials, finishes, tolerances and bill of materials and ensure compliance with safety and performance requirements
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing engineering to optimise designs for sheet metal fabrication and other relevant processes
- Create prototypes, oversee testing and implement design changes based on test results and manufacturing feedback
- Manage timelines, risks and design reviews; communicate progress clearly to cross-functional teams
- Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years' experience in product development, preferably within furniture or related industries
- Proven experience with hard furniture and outdoor furniture design
- Strong 2D/3D CAD skills (Autodesk Inventor or similar)
- Good understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, tooling and design for manufacture principles
- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and ability to balance aesthetics, functionality and cost
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; experience working with suppliers and manufacturing partners
- Experience with prototyping, testing programs and production launch activities
- Knowledge of finishes, corrosion protection and outdoor durability considerations
