Position:Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and diagnostics for light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. The technician can perform advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, and continually learns additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentiates.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Operate the company‑issued service vehicle, completing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders (RO) and upload photos using the TRAIT application on an iOS device.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals and updates.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of related experience (or a higher degree with corresponding experience). Candidates may also have alternative combinations such as a college degree or 5+ years of experience.
- Possess the hand tools necessary for the role.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Meet DOT FMCSA regulations, including a successful pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or valid medical card with more than 4 months remaining.
- Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Maintain a clean driving record and be a safe driver.
