Position Description

General Summary

The Pneumatic Salt Truck Operator drives and operates a pneumatic truck to load, transport, and unload salt and other dry bulk material to and from oilfield sites. The Pneumatic Salt Truck Operator must conduct all activities according to DOT regulations and CRACO company policies and procedures. This position requires frequent contact with the Company's dispatcher, Field Supervisor/Department Manager, Customers, and other Company representatives.

Essential Job Functions
  • Loading, hauling and unloading salt and other dry bulk material using a tractor-trailer following DOT guidelines.
  • Performing safety inspections as required by DOT, and maintaining a DOT driver log and records according to regulations and requirements.
  • Conducting pre and post-trip inspections of tractor trailer unit, including, but not limited to, hoses, fittings, and valves.
  • Completing work tickets and maintaining daily inventory of tools, fittings, and hose connections on the unit.
  • Maintain satisfactory customer service and interacting with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Ability to follow multistep written and/or oral instruction.
  • Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Ability and willingness to use Stop Work Authority.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to maintain radio or telephone contact with supervisor or dispatcher to receive delivery or pickup instructions.
  • Follow Company and Customer safety requirements and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
  • Report all safety issues, incidents, and concerns to CRACO management.
  • Responsible to ensure all jobs are operated in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Responsible to complete, review, and audit DOT logs, pre-job work plans, journey management assessments, near miss reports, and other required inspection reports, as applicable.
In addition to an employee's typical work schedule, this position may require employees to work weekends, split shifts, and holidays if needed by the Company. Other duties may apply as necessary.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to read and write in English

• Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English

• Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.

• Knowledge of hauling and towing capacity (GVWR)

• Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.).

• Knowledge of securing equipment and loads

• Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)

• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of industry specific safety standards

Education and Experience

Valid California Class A Driver's License with tanker endorsement required and hazardous material endorsement preferred. Minimum one (1) year experience operating a pneumatic salt truck in a DOT-regulated environment. High school graduate or GED, preferred.

Physical & Mental Requirements

Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surfaces vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.

Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8's and 4-10's.
