Position Summary: The Athletics Department at California State University, Bakersfield, a NCAA Division I institution, invites applications for a Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach. This is a non-tenured position. The assistant coach will support the head coach in team management, player development, game strategy, and recruiting efforts. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the program while fostering a positive and competitive team culture.
Knowledge,Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of NCAA Rules - strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance.
- Sport Experience - extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills.
- Recruiting - ability to evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student-athletes. Maintain correspondence with a large number of prospects: e-mail, letters, and phone.
- Academic Monitoring - ability to establish and monitor an academic system that ensures academic success for the student-athlete.
- Travel - ability to plan, organize and execute travel arrangements.
- Computer Skills - computer literacy.
- Communication Skills - high level of communication with student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, coaches, counselors, parents, and boosters.
- Fundraising - ability to develop the sports community in the areas of support and fundraising.
- Certification Requirement - Upon hire a NCAA Coaches Certification and 15 passenger van driving certification is required.
Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Ensure the effective teaching and instruction of all specific technical skill areas to student-athletes.
- Teach and instruct student-athletes using the coach’s background and experience to determine beneficial instruction for the team.
- Develop team and individual strategies to maximize winning potential through on-court/field coaching and video instruction.
- Design instructional programs for the team and individual student-athletes and instruct players on how to implement a game plan as determined for each competition.
- Travel to events, evaluate potential student-athlete talent, and correspond with prospects via email, phone, and in-person conversations.
- Complete all necessary Compliance and Institutional documentation.
- Recruit student-athletes who meet University academic and athletic standards.
- Monitor athletes’ academic progress by working closely with the academic support staff.
- Work with the NCAA Compliance Office to ensure programs and student-athletes comply with all rules and regulations.
- Manage an annual budget including fiscal planning.
- Promote the program to the public including media, donors, the University community, and the general public to increase visibility and revenues.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education or two (2) or more years of work experience coaching. NCAA Division I experience is preferred. A successful recruiting record of NCAA Division I student-athletes is preferred. Candidate must possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a large variety of constituents.
CompensationThe full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) monthly salary range for this classification is $6,288-$7,658, in accordance with the CSU Unit 3 salary schedule.
This appointment is 0.50 FTE, equivalent to 20 hours per week (based on a 40-hour workweek), and salary will be prorated based on time base. At 0.50 FTE, the approximate monthly salary range is $3,144-$3,829. Actual salary is commensurate with education and experience.
