This position is responsible for the licensure of casino operation employee applicants for the Tejon’s Gaming Commission’s Background Department, tasked with ensuring backgrounds of the employees chosen to meet licensing standards of the gaming operation and commission. In addition, this position is responsible for making a suitability recommendation of all license applicants and vendors (based on background licensing standards) for employment.
ROLES& RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure applications are complete and confirm/clarify gaps in employment and residence, confirm phone numbers and assist prospective employees with the completion of the application. Make sure applications are notarized.
- Maintain applicant and vendor files, remove terminated employees from the active investigation file, recover and properly destroy employee’s license.
- Maintain statistical applicant information including a database with dates applications were received and dates preliminary background investigations were completed.
- Liaison with the administrative assistant in updating applicant intake stats ensuring proper billing and submit orders for payment/budgeting.
- Interview applicants if needed to confirm, verify, or rule out criminal information as factual.
- Complete a comprehensive report compiling all investigative material in a clear and concise manner. Make suitability recommendations and submit the report to the Executive Director for review/approval.
- Testify and/or present evidence at hearings regarding licensing sanctions imposed by the Commission.
- Liaison with the administrative assistant to ensure proper receipt and tracking of vendor information, application package, licensing fee, date of mailing and return of package.
- Maintain liaison with the state, federal and tribal regulatory agencies and any other law enforcement agencies.
- Attend meeting and training seminars to maintain current and efficient.
- Must have knowledge of Tribal communities, specifically the Tejon Tribal community or be willing to become knowledgeable.
- Must have demonstrated experience in exercising sound professional judgment, determination, and persistence.
- Must possess excellent analytical, typing/word processing, communication, grammatical and composition skills.
- Must be able to understand and maintain confidentiality of communications. Prepare business documents, client case notes, technical reports, manuals, articles, financial reports, etc.
- Must work well in a team environment, be a quick learner and have solid time management skills.
- Must have the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Working knowledge of the Tribal-State Compact, Tribal Gaming Ordinances, NIGC Regulations, state and local laws that pertain to the establishment, Hard Rock Casino Human Resources policies & procedures, and commission policies & procedures.
- ØHigh School Diploma or GED required;
College Degree (preferred). - ØMinimum of two (2) years of investigative experience with a law enforcement or regulatory agency (preferred).
- ØPossession of a valid driver’s license, transportation, and insurance. (required).
- ØKnowledge of Tribal Gaming operations and facilities (preferred).
- ØMust have an advanced ability in Microsoft Office Suite.
- ØMust be personable and polite with ability to use discretion, initiative, and good judgment in the performance of duties.
- ØMust be able to work evening hours and weekends on occasion (required).
- ØMust pass a background security check prior to employment.
- ØMust pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug tests as requested over course of employment.
- ØFollow established confidentiality policy, safety standards, or applicable regulations
- ØIdentify problems, investigate root causes, and make recommendations for solutions.
