The cashier’s main objective is to provide extraordinary customer service through speedy and accurate recording of customers merchandise. Operate the cash registers and other equipment to carry out duties. Ensure till balances at the end of the shift. Will bag groceries, stock merchandise, organize, and clean as needed to meet the goals of the store.

• Smile and greet all customers and team members while using the six steps of delivering extraordinary customer service.
• Responsible for practicing, supporting, and believing everyday in Vallarta’s core values which are customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and team work.
• Follow and adhere to all check stand rules.
• Operate cash register system accurately at all times.
• Accurately record items to be purchased; cashiers are prohibited from ringing up purchases for family members, friends and/or themselves.
• Follow proper money handling, change due, and electronic procedures according to training guidelines.
• Accurately balance the cash drawer at the beginning of shift within 5 min. and at the end of the shift within 10 min.
• Must maintain cash till and check stand work area clean, organized and free of clutter; personal items must be stored in lockers and not under the check stand.
• Must not have open food or beverages, except for one water bottle, in the check stand area; no eating or gum chewing.
• Thorough knowledge of produce codes; must be able to identify and differentiate between all produce items sold. Ensuring to walk produce department at the beginning of each shift.
• Follow and adhere to double charge procedures.
• Adhere to all State laws and Company policy on alcohol and tobacco sales.
• Adhere to all State regulations and Company policy on WIC and EBT transactions.
• Understand the cashier codes and properly use intercom system.
• Respond to customer requests; call manager for assistance when needed.
• Offer carry out assistance to customers when needed ex. large orders, customer requests.
• Bag customer groceries adhering to customers request and Vallarta Supermarkets bagging procedures
• Be alert for items stored in the bottom of the cart; adhere to bottom of the cart procedures.
• Adhere to cashier dress code, grooming, jewelry and nail policy.
• Use all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Ensure that the highest standards of housekeeping and safety in the front end are followed.
• Work safely and be aware of co-workers and customer safety at all times.
• Work as a team member, assist co-workers when needed.
• Treat co-workers and customers respectfully at all times. Do not use obscene and/or profane language or gestures.
• Abide by all store rules, and company policies as stated in Company’s Employee Handbook.
• Contact your front-end management team or store director regarding any questions, problems, or concerns.
• Take rest and meal period breaks according to Company policies.
• Must keep your immediate supervisor advised of whereabouts at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.

Must have a good attitude, friendly and courteous personality, and enjoy working with the public.

Must be able to count and perform simple math calculations without error.

Must be able to identify and differentiate between various varieties of fruits and vegetables and learn the codes associated with them.

Must be able to attend, and successfully complete Vallarta Supermarkets cashier training program.

Able to work in a fast pace environment.

Must be able to speak, understand and read English.

Must be able to speak and understand Spanish.

Must exhibit a responsible, professional, and positive attitude towards the job.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Must be able to document ability to legally work in the US.
