Job Summary

The Educator reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and is responsible for providing formal and informal education programs for the staff of BBHH (inpatient and outpatient) with planning assistance from the Management Team of the respective departments. The Educator possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to facilitate improved patient outcomes and improved staff performance in the clinical setting.

The Educator possesses the skills and knowledge to competently provide the appropriate services to patients and staff. In conjunction with the infection control consultant, provides surveillance activities and on-site support for Infection Control. In conjunction with Human Resources, provides clinical support to Employee Health activities such as immunizations, TB skin testing, etc. Come join our TEAM at Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital!!!

Responsibilities
  • The Clinical Educator/Infection Preventionist provides educational services for areas of clinical and patient care services to attain the Hospital's objectives, mission and values established by corporate administration. Supports corporate-wide programs, policies and procedures are developed to assess, evaluate and meet the needs of the patient
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, conducts, evaluates educational activities/programs and implements staff development, continuing education, orientation, annual update, and competency evaluation processes including remediation of staff in the assigned unit
  • Provides hands on training for nursing staff to support the educational goals for the hospital
  • Implements an effective, ongoing training program to measure, assess and improve the quality of care, treatment and services delivered to all patients
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Manager, House Supervisors/Charge Nurses to provide educational services to staff
  • Assesses and documents concerns and problematic situations, and forwards same to the Chief Nursing Officer
  • Communicates with Hospital Administration and Leadership Team as necessary
  • Regularly serves as a resource for staff, visitors and clinicians in need of direction and information
  • Ongoing monitoring and documentation of employee compliance with designated aspects of infection control
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of the principles and practices of hospital acquired infections, immunization policies and procedures that are specific to the hospital environment
  • Administer appropriate immunizations and documents such according to current healthcare standards and policies
  • Conducts/facilitates New Employee Orientation and annual staff in services by teaching and reinforcing current employee health standards of care, policies and procedures including Universal Precautions and Infections Prevention
  • Provides communication and reports reportable conditions to appropriate agencies
  • Keep abreast of changes in infection prevention and control guidelines and regulations to ensure our facility's protocols remain current and aid in preventing and controlling the spread of infections

If you have previous experience in a behavioral health setting as a Nurse Educator and/or with Infection Prevention, your application to this position will be moved to the shortlist of candidates.

  • Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
