This role is a Harvest Operator position with responsibilities in operating farm machinery to perform harvesting tasks. The role reports to the Assistant Manager and requires travel as described in the qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • The Harvest Operator will drive and operate farm machines such as tractors, trucks, and harvesters to perform specified farm activities, mainly loading carrots into field trailers.
  • Use heavy equipment, load sets of double trailers with carrots, and ensure loading weight is appropriate for delivery to the processing plant.
  • Assist Harvest Foreman in general mechanical repairs of equipment.
  • Hitch soil conditioning implements (e.g., plow or harrow) to the tractor, and operate to furrow and grade soil.
  • Drive tractor and operate designated towed machines (e.g., seed drill or manure spreader) to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops.
  • Prepare harvesting machine by adjusting speeds, heights, and other parameters according to crop type and terrain.
  • Attach towed or mounted harvesting equipment to tractor or drive self-propelled harvesting machines to cut and harvest crops.
  • Operate controls to activate and regulate machine mechanisms; refuel and monitor operations for optimum performance.
  • Drive trucks to haul materials or harvested crops; load/unload containers and manage materials with appropriate equipment.
  • Operate stationary equipment for post-harvest tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three years of previous experience as a tractor driver.
  • Ability to work 75% of time in non-local areas and 25% in local areas.
  • Valid California driver license and clean driving record.

  • Possess mechanical aptitude.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform routine tractor and harvester maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good mathematical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One to two years of previous experience in a farm environment.
Physical Demands
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Seasonal outdoor temperatures, cold/wet and hot conditions, and darkened conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, dust, fumes, gases, and vibrations.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds; climb ladders or scaffolding with 3-point contact as required.
Hours & Workdays
  • 1st Shift - 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM; days and hours vary based on the harvest schedule.
