Job Title:
Structural Steel Fitter
We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fitter to join a fabrication team responsible for assembling and preparing steel components for construction projects. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, understanding fabrication drawings, layouts, and specifications
- Layout and fit steel components by positioning, aligning, and securing steel parts for assembly and welding
- Operate fabrication tools, safely using cutting torches, grinders, measuring instruments, and other shop equipment
- Assist with welding preparation by performing tack welding and ensuring proper fit-up before final welds
- Inspect assemblies to verify accuracy, alignment, and compliance with project requirements
- Maintain safety standards by following OSHA and shop safety protocols, including proper use of PPE
- Collaborate with team members, working closely with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production goals
- Experience of 3+ years in structural steel fitting or related fabrication work
- Strong understanding of steel properties, cutting, fitting, and welding processes
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and layouts accurately
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in varying shop conditions
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints
- Experience with fabrication and welding, particularly MIG welding
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
