Building Services Worker I/II - Bakersfield 001
This regular full-time position is located in Bakersfield and may float to other court locations.
Hours:
4:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Recruitment closes on January 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Appointment Level will depend on experience and qualifications.
Level I: $17.48 to $20.31 hourly. Level II: $18.38 to $22.44 hourly.
DefinitionUnder general supervision, performs janitorial services to maintain assigned Superior Court buildings and surroundings. May perform minor building maintenance and oversee other Building Services Workers, work release, community, and/or special program personnel.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsBuilding Services Workers clean and sanitize Court facilities using brooms, mops, power‑driven cleaning equipment, solutions, and materials. Flexible classification series.
Responsibilities- Sweeps, mops, strips and waxes floors and stairways.
- Vacuum, spot clean, remove stains and shampoo carpets.
- Empty and clean trash receptacles.
- Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures and drinking fountains; refill restroom containers and dispensers.
- Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture and woodwork; wash windows, walls, ceilings; clean draperies, venetian blinds, and other window coverings.
- Assist in setting up, breaking down, and moving folding tables; move and arrange furniture and equipment.
- Turn out lights; lock doors and windows; replace light bulbs; report need for repairs.
- Move a chair rack on wheels.
- Carry and erect folding ladders; climb ladders.
- Lifts folding chairs overhead.
- Push a supply cart on wheels.
- Lifts and carries cases of supplies.
- Lifts crowd control turn‑style poles in buckets of cement for placement on a cart.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the public, office personnel, and other departmental employees.
- Perform other related duties assigned.
- Oversee work release, community service and/or other special program personnel; may train less experienced personnel.
Typical qualification: one year of work experience and high school graduation or G.E.D. for Level I. Same for Level II. Must be able to travel throughout Kern County.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, andPhysical Requirements
Routine cleaning and maintenance procedures; building and furnishing materials; basic arithmetic; basic hand tools and electric floor equipment; simple bookkeeping for inventory control. Ability to communicate clearly, follow oral and written instructions, use good body mechanics, follow safety practices, handle cleaning equipment and products, maintain confidentiality, and establish effective working relationships.
Manual labor: moderate lifting up to 25 lbs overhead, up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. Frequent walking, standing, reaching, manipulation, stair and ladder climbing, stooping. Exposure to hazardous materials, noxious fumes, dust, loud noises, temperature changes. Work may be indoor/outdoor.
