Job Summary

Our linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive material from Urban English to English, analyze colloquialisms and slang, extract pertinent information, and communicate it to law enforcement agents. Responsibilities include transcribing source documents and recordings from storage media including audio cassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Urban English and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable per project.
  • Relate all pertinent information to the client when supporting a live project.
  • Contribute to a master‑list of slang words and codes used by a particular group/organization for the duration of the project or case.
  • Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
  • Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by supervisor.
  • Produce court‑ready transcriptions of calls, chats, and documents following required format.
  • Use reference tools created during the project.
  • Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
  • Operate specialized software equipment such as JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment.
  • Maintain a daily log of productivity.
  • Perform related duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of professional experience OR Associate degree and 5 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma and 7 years of experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of transcription experience in the required language.
  • Subject to government background investigation; may need to meet eligibility for classified information access.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Knowledge of source language colloquialisms and expressions.
  • Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in the target language, including accurate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Score of 3 or better on a third‑party Language Assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure, fast‑paced environment and communicate with management and law enforcement personnel.
  • Strong time management, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, balance multiple tasks, work in a team environment.
  • Take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
  • Type 45 words per minute.
Clearance
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance.
  • Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
  • Successfully pass background investigation, medical, and drug screen.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident who have lived in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
Physical Requirements /Working Conditions
  • Standing, walking, mobility: required to attend meetings.
  • Climbing, stooping, kneeling: 0%-10% of time.
  • Lifting, pulling, pushing: 0%-10% of time.
  • Fingering, grasping, feeling: able to write, type, use telephone 100% of time.
  • Sitting: prolonged periods while monitoring live or taped calls; may restrict leaving desk during live monitoring/translating.
