Position Summary

A Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant is essential in supporting the Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing speech and language therapy to individuals with communication disorders. Your collaborative efforts will help improve clients' communication skills and overall quality of life. This exciting and rewarding role requires a blend of technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping others.

Essential Functions

An individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation. The requirements listed below represent, but are not all‑inclusive, of the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP), provide direct speech and language therapy services to clients in a school or clinic setting.
  • Support clients with developmental disabilities using evidence‑based practices tailored to educational and/or clinical environments.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans and therapy activities developed by the supervising SLP.
  • Track and document client performance during sessions, reporting progress and concerns to the supervising SLP.
  • Prepare engaging, age‑appropriate therapy materials and maintain an organized therapy space within the school and/or clinic environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and families to support carryover of speech and language goals into the classroom.
  • In collaboration with the SLP, adjust therapy approaches as needed to meet individual student needs and educational goals.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support therapy outcomes.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, state licensure regulations, and school protocols relevant to SLPA practice.

Requirements/

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Speech Language Pathology Assistant program or related field.
  • California state licensure or certification as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) as required by the jurisdiction.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a similar setting (e.g., healthcare facility, special education, early intervention) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) is a plus.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Talents

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact and communicate with clients, their families, and other healthcare and school professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and create a supportive and comfortable therapeutic environment.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the development of speech and language.
  • Understanding of speech and language disorders, their causes, and commonly used assessments and treatment techniques.
