We are soliciting applications for part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors in Sociology for the Social Science department. Candidates will be contacted immediately when a need arises, and applications remain active for up to two years.
Responsibilities- Teach a full range of Sociology courses, including day, evening, weekend, large and distance‑learning classes.
- Provide instruction at one or more campus sites as needed.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation programs for the department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop or revise curriculum.
- Utilize multimedia and computer technologies in teaching.
- Engage collegially in departmental and college professional activities.
- Master’s degree in Sociology; or
- Bachelor’s in Sociology plus a Master’s in Anthropology, Ethics Studies, Social Work, or Psychology; or
- Valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Sociology at the California Community College level; or
- Equivalent experience, education, or accomplishments (see equivalence process).
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits from accredited institutions; foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized service.
- Work effectively with colleagues and a diverse student population.
- Adapt teaching for students with varied skills, motivations, and academic goals.
- Design curriculum for multiple modalities.
- Recruitment and articulation experience with local schools and higher‑education institutions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain current knowledge in the discipline.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Proficiency with computer technology and openness to new educational tools.
- Commitment to the California community college mission.
