Basic Function

Applicants may be considered for part-time, hourly adjunct instructor assignments in the Business Management/Information Technology or Engineering departments. Kern Community College District maintains a continuous pool of applicants, allowing rapid contact if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Representative Duties

This adjunct pool will staff assignments at the Bakersfield Community College Main Campus in the aforementioned departments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience
  • OR – Any associate degree and six years of professional experience
  • OR – The equivalent

Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree. The experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates with such equivalent qualifications must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents.

All degrees must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees require evaluation by an accredited credential evaluation service.

A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students is required.

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals
  • Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission
