Notes:
Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applicants meeting the minimum requirements may be contacted by department supervisors, deans or division chairs if a need arises. Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years. Starting salary range is $67.00/hour; hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of art courses. This assignment may include teaching at off-campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distant learning and multiple teaching methodologies. Other duties include participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Visual and Performing Arts department; maintaining subject matter currency;

developing and revising curriculum; using computer and multimedia technology; and collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Options

  • Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either:
    • A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor; or
    • B) One year of professional experience working with older adults
  • OR
  • Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty hours or four semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.
  • OR - The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.

    Note:

    Master's in fine arts refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, including visual studio arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, metal and jewelry art; art education and art therapy). It does not refer to the MFA degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or other non-plastic arts. Also, a demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds is required.

    Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions. Foreign degrees must be evaluated if issued outside the United States. The screening committee reserves the right to limit interviews; meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.
